Kathy Helps the Tigers
It’s back to school and kids and teachers are heading back from a fun summer! At the end of the last school year, I was fortunate to participate in a fantastic community project to design an updated space for the teachers at our own local Union Hill Elementary School. Together with the High Point Chamber of Commerce, Jamestown Presbyterian Church’s outreach committee (my church), Principal Shayla Savage, and generous donations from Shari and Phil Driscoll, and furniture donations from Edward Ferrell & Lewis Mittman, Erwin Lambeth Company, and Marquis Seating, I was able to design a beautiful space for comfort, relaxation, and fun for the most deserving and hardworking people among us – the teachers and faculty that spend time teaching and helping our kids every day!

Our church supports Union Hill School a lot and when Ms. Savage asked for help to create a teachers’ lounge, I was more than willing to work on the project. After reviewing our budget and meeting with Principal Savage, it was clear that we’d need help to make the dream of a relaxing space a reality – that’s when we really rallied the troops and several High Point furniture companies came through to prove that our city is the Furniture Capital of the World!

Teachers and staff test out the soft seating provided by generous donors. Bright pops of color from the orchids, rugs and accessories keep the space feeling upbeat, but adult (there are plenty of fun primary colors for the kids in the classroom!)
After working on this project for several months, it was so much fun to be able to meet the teachers who would get to enjoy the fantastic space we created! Seeing how the space brought the teachers together in separate, comfortable meeting spaces was so rewarding!

Color of the Month
I stay up to date on color trends so that she can bring fresh perspectives to your home, whether haute hues, or classic color. Sherwin-Williams has selected their September 2016 Color of the Month: Ravishing Coral, a complex, subtle, dynamic color that can read as soft as blush, or as bright as flamingo. A fantastic hue when you want to play off of navy or green as an accent color, or as an energizing choice for the office!
Project of the Month!
